Field Trips
Join us at Seattle Humane for a field trip! Educators can pick a lesson from the list above or work with Seattle Humane staff to tie-in current curriculum and class learning goals. We offer field trips to Seattle Humane Wednesday-Friday. The length of the field trip depends on your availability, the size of your group, and the chosen lesson. We typically build in a lunch break around noon and can adjust the timing to accommodate different schedules. An example field trip schedule is:
10:15-10:30: Arrival window
10:30-11:00: Introduction to Seattle Humane
11:00-11:50: Lesson/Program activities
11:50-12:20: Lunch break for students
12:20-12:50: Small group tours
12:50-1:00: Wrap up/Reflection
1:00: Departure
We are happy to provide recommendations for pre-visit lessons to introduce a field trip or follow-up lessons that can extend or conclude the topics discussed during your class’s visit.
Will my students get to meet animals?
The Seattle Humane mission is to save and serve pets in need. We do this by creating a safe space for cats, dogs, and small mammals and encouraging the humane treatment of all animals. We are a Fear Free shelter, meaning all interactions with our animals are focused on minimizing fear, anxiety and stress. Whether we visit you or you visit us, interactions with pets are based on their needs and comfort. We cannot guarantee students will meet a specific type or number of animals, as our shelter population changes daily.
When you schedule a series of visits, there is a greater likelihood that a suitable pet will be available. When we travel to you with animals, we will most likely be accompanied by a cat/kitten or small mammal like a guinea pig. Please make us aware of your facility’s animal policies.
How much do programs cost?
The fee for our programs ranges from $195-$495 depending on the amount of participants, number of visits, and whether we are hosting at our facility or travelling to you. Virtual visits do not typically carry a fee, and we sponsor visits to schools and organizations located in or primarily serving students/clients in our Pets for Life zip codes: 98108, 98106 and 98146. We may also be able to sponsor programs at other locations.
Once you fill out a request form we will be able to send you a quote.
