Interested in having your child practice their reading skills in a supportive, comforting environment? Kitty Literature offers the opportunity for 5-10 year olds to help socialize our cats by reading to them. Participants can read to cats in our community adoption rooms for 20 minute sessions. What better way for your child to help animals and improve upon their own skill set!

How:

Follow the steps below to get started and help your youth become a reader.

  1. Complete a volunteer application
  2. Watch "All About Seattle Humane" video
  3. Watch "Kitty Literature Program and Safety" video

Note: Please watch the "Kitty Literature Program and Safety" video with any youth readers. This video has important safety and program protocol information for youth and adults.

4. Complete a brief quiz about Seattle Humane and our Kitty Literature program 

5. Download, complete and return the following documents:

Chaperone Agreement

To return, please scan and email to educationservices@seattlehumane.org; fax to (425) 747-2985 and designate for Education Department; or mail to: Education Services c/o Seattle Humane, 13212 SE Eastgate Way, Bellevue, WA  98005.

Once all the steps above are completed, you will receive a welcome email into the Kitty Literature family and instructions on how to sign up for reading sessions. We thank you for your interest in Seattle Humane and our Kitty Literature program!
