The Stepping Stones of Estate Planning
In these unprecedented and challenging times, many people are tackling projects while staying at home that have been on the back burner. The pandemic has also prompted planning for unexpected health issues and even death.
Starting the process of estate planning, which should include creating a health care power of attorney and directive, may seem daunting. But by taking incremental steps, developing a plan becomes manageable and easier than expected.
Seattle Humane has teamed up with three other local nonprofits – Northwest Harvest, The Museum of Flight, and Rainier Scholars — to host an Estate Planning Workshop series. In January, before the pandemic took hold and when in-person large gatherings were allowed, the first session of the series took place at The Museum of Flight.
The second session of the series, “Stepping Stones of Estate Planning: Selecting Advisors and Creating Your Plan,” will be held virtually on Wednesday, August 12, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. During this Zoom workshop, our panel of health and legal professionals will provide information on what you should consider in selecting those individuals who will help execute your estate plans and health care directive, as well as the documents that make up a comprehensive estate plan. Register now and we will send you the Zoom meeting details two days prior to the session.
Panel participants:
- Dr. Wayne McCormick, M.D., M.P.H., practices at Harborview Medical Center in Geriatric and is head of Gerontology and Geriatric Medicine for UW Medicine. Dr. McCormick will provide an overview of COVID-19 especially as it affects seniors, and share his perspective on the importance of health directives and what they should contain.
- Tiffany Gorton, an estate planning attorney with KBBH Law, will share considerations in selecting the right advisors, executors and administrators to help carry out your estate plans.
- Jessica Beck, an estate planning attorney with Krueger Beck, will discuss the type of documents that make up a comprehensive estate plan.
